Interesting article in The Atlantic Cities today. It is being reported that one of the bombs in Boston yesterday may have been stashed in a trash can. In the wake of that and past terror attacks, some are looking at removing trash cans as a means of reducing hiding places for bombs. Although trash can design could be greatly improved aesthetically (and as shown in the article, more bomb-proof), waste receptacles are a sign of civilized society and serve a useful health purpose in reducing litter. It's simplistic and unrealistic to think removing one hiding place will deter those with bad intentions.
Our thoughts and well wishes go out to the victims of this senseless crime.
